ICOM wil zijn governance verbeteren. Daarom kregen Doyenne Strategy en Luma Consulting de opdracht om een externe evaluatie uit te voeren over het functioneren van de internationale organisatie. In december 2021 was het conceptrapport klaar om te worden beoordeeld door de leden van alle Nationale en Internationale ICOM comités. We berichtten hier al eerder over op deze nieuwspagina.
Definitief rapport
We danken iedereen die tijdens de online inspraaksessies of via het enquêteformulier heeft bijgedragen aan het proces. Inmiddels is het definitieve rapport verschenen. Concluderend wordt gesteld dat:
If there is an overriding message, it is this: ICOM members care deeply about this organization and about the integrity of the museum profession. The events of 2019-2020 and their aftermath did not cause the governance crisis, they merely put existing issues on display on a scale that could not be ignored. Restoring member trust will require an ongoing commitment to better communication, more engagement, and improved transparency in governance that continues with the next board, and the board after that. With greater trust, ICOM’s leaders and members will have a solid foundation on which to build as they grapple with complex and even contentious issues facing the museum field and the association.
