ICOM Talk: Towards a new model of exhibition making

the Design Museum, London case study: Towards a new model of exhibition making

We look back on a successful ICOM Talk with Elise Foster Vander Elst, Head of Exhibitions & Environmental Impact Lead at the Design Museum in London. At this museum, they are well advanced in mapping and reducing the environmental impact of temporary exhibitions. And that is not just about making sharp choices about which objects to exhibit (do we really need that one large object that has to come by plane?), but also about sustainable alternatives in exhibition construction. Reusable walls, for instance, and texts printed directly on the wall instead of on vinyl that eventually ends up in the bin.
