Vacancy: General Board Member

13/03/2026

For the board of ICOM Netherlands we are looking, as of 29 May 2026, for a:

General Board Member

ICOM Netherlands is one of the 127 national committees within the global ICOM community. In the Netherlands, more than 6,000 members are connected through an association. The board of this association consists of seven members: in addition to the chair, treasurer, and secretary, there are four members responsible for communication, programming, and grants. The board meets approximately six times per year (often online) and convenes a General Members’ Meeting once a year.

The board is supported in its work by a circle of paid and volunteer staff who contribute to areas such as administration, communication, and programming. In the coming years, ICOM Netherlands will also work towards the organisation of the ICOM General Conference 2028 in Rotterdam.

We are looking for an enthusiastic general board member for ICOM Netherlands: someone with sufficient time (approximately 4 hours per week) and motivation to contribute to strengthening the museum sector by promoting knowledge exchange between international museum colleagues and networks.

What are your tasks?

Each board member has a substantive portfolio. Due to the restructuring of tasks within the board, you will manage two portfolios:

  • You are responsible for the membership programme, which each year consists of various meetings and lectures (both online and offline). In the lead-up to the ICOM General Conference 2028 in Rotterdam, and in line with the priorities outlined in ICOM’s strategic plan, you will work together with international colleagues to develop a diverse programme on various current and stimulating themes within the international museum sector.

  • In addition, you are responsible for the membership administration and take decisions regarding the application of the membership criteria.

Who are we looking for?

  • You are an experienced professional in the museum field; preferably you currently work in a museum (or have worked in one recently).

  • You are a member of ICOM.

  • Given the current composition of the board, we preferably seek someone who works (or has worked) in or for small to medium-sized museums, or someone working at a museum in Rotterdam (in connection with the ICOM General Conference 2028 in Rotterdam).

What do we offer?

  • A position within a dynamic international organisation, expanding your knowledge and global connections.

  • A volunteer allowance and reimbursement for travel, accommodation, and other expenses.

Procedure

Deadline: 3 April 2026. Please send your CV and short motivation letter to Caroline Breunesse, Chair of ICOM Netherlands, via chair@icom.nl
