Young Members: join our Board!

15/07/2025

ICOM Netherlands is immediately looking for a second junior board member. In addition, we are looking for museum professionals under the age of 35 for the Young Members Focus Group. So are you motivated to commit to ICOM and grow your international museum network? Then read on quickly and join our board!

Are you our new junior board member?

Being part of this network is inspiring, but it is also challenging as a junior board member. Because how do you involve Young Members (members aged 18-35) in ICOM? How do you develop relevant and stimulating programmes for the more than 1,800 Dutch Young Members? How do you make the network more accessible and inclusive for a new generation of museum professionals?

 For a year and a half now, I have enjoyed working as a junior board member at ICOM Netherlands. Besides completing my Cultural Heritage studies, it gives me the opportunity to gain practical experience and to think, talk and learn about themes that concern museums worldwide. Together with other board members and the international Young Members, we explore how current issues are being addressed inside and outside museum walls.
- Junior board member Olivia Bicker-Caarten

To continue this mission, the board of ICOM Netherlands has decided to create a second junior board position. This will allow us to give even more students a voice in the museum field. Junior board members always succeed each other on a rotating basis, so the experienced junior board member can familiarise the new junior board member, knowledge transfer runs more smoothly and junior board members can learn from and support each other.

Who are we looking for?

  • You are an inquisitive student and member of ICOM NL;
  • You have a heart for art, culture and heritage;
  • You want to dedicate yourself to the future generation of museum professionals;
  • You have an affinity with communication and programming;
  • You like to think about ICOM NL's Young Members network.

What do we ask?

You have time to meet monthly (online), starting at the end of this summer;
You have a total of 6 hours of your time available each month to dedicate to our network;
You speak and write fluent Dutch and English;
You are motivated to commit to being a junior board member together with a fellow junior board member for a two-year term.

Does this sound like something for you?

Then apply no later than 7 August 2025 with a short cover letter of 150 words and send your CV to young@icom.nl.
(Note: this position is exclusively for students)
